Arts Contra Costa County (ARTSCCC) has awarded $2,000 District Arts Partner grants to several groups serving as the creative backbone of the county.

Among the local recipients is Visual Artists of Richmond (VAR), a volunteer advocacy group dedicated to creating opportunities and sharing resources for artists living or working in Richmond. The funding provides general operating support for grassroots organizations that provide exhibitions, advocacy, and community partnerships.

Other nearby winners include Epperson Gallery in Crockett and the Martinez Arts Association, known for organizing “Art in the Park” and the “Dia de Los Muertos Altar Festival.”

ARTSCCC Executive Founding Director Jenny Balisle says these artist-led groups fill critical needs.

“The arts fill vital gaps by providing essential social-emotional support, fostering community connection, and enhancing education,” Balisle said. “By offering creative outlets and opportunities for self-expression, these partners build empathy, promote dialogue, and facilitate healing where traditional services often fall short.”

Designated as the county’s official local arts agency in 2024, ARTSCCC funded this cycle through the Zellerbach Family Foundation, the Dean & Margaret Lesher Foundation, and Contra Costa County. Beyond grants, the agency manages youth library workshops and the “Art Passages” exhibits in Martinez.
