A Pinole man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision in San Pablo this morning that killed an 88-year-old woman, police said.

Kelly Lynch, 64, was arrested at his home at about 11:15 a.m. after San Pablo police investigators used public safety cameras to identify his vehicle, a 1991 Ford pickup truck, as being involved in the incident.

That truck’s driver, according to police, fatally struck the woman in the area of 23rd Street and San Pablo Avenue at about 5:16 a.m. and then fled the scene, police said. The victim, an 88-year-old San Pablo resident, died at the scene despite attempts by first responders to keep her alive. Her identification is being withheld until her family is notified, police said.

The roadway was shut down for over five hours for the police investigation.

Lynch, who had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear on a previous drug arrest, was booked into county jail on charges of felony hit and run, and felony probation violation.

“Detectives have not ruled out drug or alcohol intoxication as contributing factors,” police said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the San Pablo Police Investigations Division at (510) 215-3150. All calls can remain anonymous.
