A fundraiser has been launched for six families affected by a fire at a San Pablo apartment complex Monday.
The fire, first reported about 11:19 a.m. in the back yard of the two-story, six-unit complex in the 1800 block of Rumrill Boulevard, damaged three units, two substantially, according to Contra Costa Fire Protection District spokesperson Steve Hill.
While there were no injuries, 26 people including children, teens, seniors and the disabled were affected, according to the fundraiser organized in a partnership with Lao Family Community Development (LFCD) and San Pablo EDC. The nonprofits are reaching out to community members and businesses to help the families, encouraging local restaurants and grocery stores to provide gift cards and requesting donations of new clothing, blankets, houseware, furniture toys and other items. Three families need temporary and longterm housing accommodations, they said.
“This family-friendly housing complex serves exclusively lower-income hard-working families,” the nonprofit says.
Those wishing to donate funds can write checks payable to LFCD, Memo: San Pablo Fire Victims Fund and send to Lao Family, 1865 Rumrill Blvd, Suite B San Pablo, CA 94806.
