Seasonal cheer is here, signaling the time is near for the “Downtown Holiday Festival 2024,” a Richmond tradition presented by Richmond Main Street Initiative and the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts. The event first kicked off in 2012.

The festivities are set for Thursday, Dec. 12 from 4-8 p.m. at the home of the Performing Arts center at 339 11th St. in Richmond.

Holiday revelers can see two first-come-first-serve performances of “A Richmond Nutcracker” at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Performing Arts center. Santa will be in town to take photos with the littles, and there will be a gift bag giveaway to boot.

Richmond Main Street Initiative said on its website that the event is made possible with the help of countless volunteers, adding that organizers transform the Performing Arts center’s historic Winters Building into a winter wonderland.

“We invite families from the Iron Triangle and surrounding communities to participate in a unique holiday celebration complete with festive music, “A Richmond Nutcracker” performances, and a memorable visit from Santa Claus,” the organization said.

Event sponsors include Chevron Richmond, Mechanics Bank, Sims Metal, Republic Services, 7 Stars, AC Transit, East Brother, Foods Co. and others.
