Contra Costa Community College District (4CD) Chancellor Mojdeh Mehdizadeh was named “Education Champion” for May by Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey during the most recent Contra Costa County Board of Education meeting.

Community leaders and organizations that go above and beyond in their support of public education in Contra Costa County are honored with the award. Chancellor Mehdizadeh is appreciated as exemplifying this spirit via her leadership in K–12 initiatives, adult education and workforce development.

Superintendent Mackey said the Contra Costa Community College District is one of her office’s most valued partners. “Thanks to Chancellor Mehdizadeh’s leadership, the district continues to expand access and opportunity for learners of all ages through programs that prepare them for college, careers and lifelong success.”

Mackey added that Chancellor Mehdizadeh’s collaboration with the CCCOE has resulted in them offering college courses to incarcerated youth, with their agency being one of the first in California to do so. She said that one such student will be attending a University of California campus after completing their program, a feat she noted as “incredible.”

The May Education Champion is known as a steadfast advocate for student success and educational equity throughout her career. Preceding her current role, she served as executive vice chancellor of Education and Technology and as president of Contra Costa College.

“We are deeply honored to be recognized as an education champion and we are grateful for our strong partnership, united by our shared commitment to uplifting all students,” said Chancellor Mehdizadeh. She added that they are united in their mission and are committed to promoting educational equity and empowering every learner to achieve success and realize their dreams.
