The City of Hercules is holding a community workshop on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Hercules Library, located at 109 Civic Drive, to gather resident input for Horizon 2050, which is the comprehensive update to the city’s General Plan.

Horizon 2050 will serve as the primary guide for the city’s development over the next 25 years. The current General Plan received its last comprehensive update in 1998. While individual sections have been revised since that time, a complete update is necessary to address new state laws and changing local requirements, according to the city. The process will revise specific elements of the General Plan, including land use, circulation, open space and conservation, economic development, and noise.

Attendees at the Sept. 10 workshop will discuss how the city should evolve and where new development should be directed over the next two and a half decades. Interim City Manager Patrick Tang said the update provides a collaborative opportunity to define the future of the community, emphasizing the city’s desire to hear what residents value most and how they envision Hercules growing.

In addition to the workshop, the city has launched an online survey for the project. Residents can find more information about Horizon 2050, access the online survey, and look for future participation opportunities by visiting hercules2050.com.
