After a week-long interruption of trash service due to a labor dispute at Republican‑contracted facilities, Republic Services has announced the resumption of residential and small-business garbage collection in West Contra Costa County, according to Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia.
Supervisor John Gioia has urged that the company provide rate relief to local residents to compensate for the period without service.
“There will still not be recycling and green waste collection at this time,” Gioia said. “Put your garbage cart only out on the curb along with any extra bagged trash for pickup at no charge.”
Gioia added that garbage pickups may occur on a non-scheduled day.
Republic is still allowing residents with proof of residency to bring up to four bags of garbage at no charge to their Golden Bear Transfer Station at 1 Parr Blvd., Richmond (off the Richmond Parkway) from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (no bulky items or e-waste).
