If sipping mimosas for a charitable cause sounds like a fab plan this coming Valentine’s, Just Imagine KidZ’ “Bubbles & Brunch” celebration might be the right match for you.
Set for Sunday, Feb. 16 from 2-4 p.m. at the Garica Event Space in downtown Richmond, the event will serve up a scrumptious brunch of meat and vegan bites by Cindy Howell, along with two mimosa drinks for $60 per person. Extra bubbles can be purchased for an additional fee, with all proceeds benefiting Richmond nonprofit Just Imagine KidZ.
Accordion soul music by Andre Thierry will add to the lively celebration, as will a raffle of donated items and an auction.
Under the advisement of Executive Director Tamara Shiloh—also known locally as the owner of the Multicultural Bookstore—Just Imagine KidZ teaches Black and Hispanic history/STEAM to elementary and middle school students via after school, Saturday and summer programs.
Shiloh said that the program “is designed to educate and inspire young minds by integrating the rich histories and contributions of Black and Hispanic communities with science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education.” Ultimately, the nonprofit looks to foster a love for learning and empower students to reach their full potential through interactive projects, educational field trips and guest speaker sessions, according to the executive director.
The support raised through Bubbles & Brunch will be instrumental in helping the nonprofit procure essential materials and resources, said Shiloh, such as art supplies for creative projects; science kits for experiments and demonstrations; technology tools for coding and robotics activities; and educational books and materials for history lessons.
