Richmond Councilmember Cesar Zepeda is demanding urgent action to prevent sideshows and other reckless driving behavior on Canal Boulevard and other locations in the city.
Canal Boulevard is known as one of a number of hotspots for sideshows, which have been an increasing issue of concern for residents in recent years. Earlier this month, Richmond police arrested nine people related to a sideshow on the boulevard.
“There are frequent sideshows and high-speed racing causing harm to people, damage to property, and deaths,” the councilmember states in an agenda report for tonight’s council meeting.
Zepeda is asking the council to direct city staff to “immediately evaluate traffic calming measures throughout the city, including along Canal Boulevard, to slow traffic down.”
He further requests action on at least six locations in the city to prevent drivers from performing donuts, “no later than the end of January 2025.”
