Johnny Boi Smash Burger in Point Richmond is winning fans across the Bay Area due, in part, to being chosen as one of “Three worthwhile new burger spots in the region” by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Writer Cesar Hernandez of the Chronicle called Johnny Boi’s Trompo—a smash burger made with fire roasted Al pastor/pork, patty, chipotle sauce, white American Swiss, grilled pineapple, caramelized onions and fried leeks—”the most interesting thing on the menu” and “indulgent.” He also called the eatery’s Johnny Boi burger “a solid effort.”
This Richmond Standard reporter takes the Johnny Boi burger next level by ordering the Fat Boi—made with two burgers instead of one—and splitting it with my husband. Our son, a Richmond Steeler, is a Trompo fanatic and orders it every time.
Johnny Boi clearly knows its way around a smash burger. Owner Johnny Bermudez, who also owns two Masa Tamales and Taquerias and is poised to open a new eatery in the spot once inhabited by the Great American Hamburger and Pie Co., recently told the Standard that he’s been “smashing burgers since [he] was 10 years old.” The eatery’s menu includes flavorful smash burgers, chicken, wings, fries, shakes and more.
