Where’s the meat? At Meat Market D.C. in San Pablo, of course.

It’s where you will find excellent customer service, too.

For these reasons and more, the San Pablo Economic Development Corporation (San Pablo EDC) recognized Meat Market D.C. as the 2025 San Pablo Small Business of the Year at the annual Small Business of the Year Mixer on Thursday, May 8, at San Pablo City Hall. The ceremony occurred during National Small Business Week (May 5-11).

Located at 2077 23rd St., Meat Market D.C. is a wholesale and retail business that sells meat, seafood and produce. It was among 48 other locally owned businesses nominated by the community for San Pablo Business of the Year in 2025.

Leslay Choy, executive director of San Pablo EDC, praised Meat Market D.C. and its owner Gonzalo Chavez for preparing top-quality meat that is “tender” and “marinated to perfection.” She also praised Chavez for hiring locally and taking care of the community.

Those who voted for the business added the quality meat is also affordable.
“Small businesses like Meat Market D.C. are trusted community anchors,” Choy said.  “When residents nominate a business for this award, they are celebrating a deeper relationship built on mutual investment.”

Chavez expressed his gratitude for those who trust in his business and voted for it.

“It makes me happy to know that I am doing things well,” he said. “I want to thank the city of San Pablo for giving me this award and for giving me the opportunity to meet them. Thank you for your support. Whatever you need, we’ll be here. I would love for people to come and try our products –the quality of our meat, which is our specialty, as well as our prices and customer service.”
