O’Henry’s in San Pablo is the kind of doughnut shop where customers are welcomed by name.

Angelica Yan and Roberto Arguello are the proud owners the doughnut store located at 13501 San Pablo Ave. (at the corner of Vale Road). About three years ago, they bought the shop from the original owner, who had owned the business for about 20 years.

“Most of our customers live close by, in either Richmond or the San Pablo area,” said Arguello.

During the Standard’s recent visit, one customer raved about the good treatment customers receive — and the delicious treats.

“They make the very best doughnut holes anywhere in the area,” she said.

The shop is a sweet deal for customers, but it takes hard work to run it. Yan said they start their day at 5:30 a.m. to produce 400 to 500 fresh donuts daily. They open by 6 a.m. and offer a number of traditional and unique donuts.

“We also get a lot of requests for the blueberry and sprinkle donuts,” Yan said.

The best part is seeing customers enjoy their fresh treats, said Yan. She says her mother inspired her to get into the donut business.

“When I was younger, she had worked at three or four different donuts shops,” Yan said. “When I became an adult, I thought owning my own business was a step in the right direction.”

O’Henry’s Donut Shop is opened daily: Monday through Saturday, from 6 a.m. to noon, and Sunday 7 a.m. till noon.
