Shields-Reid Park clean up and sports camp events set for Friday, Saturday

3rd annual Shields-Reid Community Chess Tournament set for Sept. 8
The Shields-Reid Community Center

The community is invited to help clean up and renovate the Shields-Reid Park soccer and baseball fields — while enjoying a free soccer and baseball camp for kids and a family-fun festival — this Friday and Saturday.

There will be a trash cleanup on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the park at 1410 Kelsey St., along with a field renovation and repair event from 9 a.m. to noon.

The events are part of an initiative by North Richmond families who want to help restore the baseball and soccer fields and restore community pride and ownership in them.

The Oakland A’s mascot Stomper will attend Saturday’s youth camps, which run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Coaches from More Than a Game and Richmond SOL will run the baseball and soccer camps, respectively. The event will feature a BBQ, DJ and giveaways.
