Tix still available for Saturday’s WWII Shipyard re-enactment

Red Oak Victory to close for restoration work

Fabulous 80-degree weather has been forecast for Saturday’s WWII Shipyard reenactment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., timed in conjunction with Fleet Week festivities.

The event is set to take place  on the SS Red Oak Victory, its dock and under the Whirley Crane at 1337 Canal Blvd. in Richmond.

“We’ll have vintage military vehicles and classic cars, WWII Navy and Army reenactors, genuine WW II Rosies, hula dancers, live music, and lots of food,” organizers said Friday. “And we’re hopeful that the SS Jeremiah O’Brien and the USS Potomac will steam past our ship, winds and tides permitting.”

Call (510) 237-2933 for those wanting to purchase meal tickets for the event.

The cost is $25 per person and includes the meal and access to all of the festivities.

The fun doesn’t end there. On Sunday, SS Red Oak Victory will host the regular pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 pm.

“The only place in the SF Bay Area where you can have your pancakes cooked on a bona fide Diesel-fired stove,” Hoech said.

San Francisco Fleet Week runs from Oct. 3 through Oct. 10 and is a celebration of the sea-faring U.S. military. It includes air shows, a parade of ships and exhibits and attracts many military members to the city.
