A newly released video produced by University of California-Berkeley graduate students gives some insight into how Coach Rae Jackson has been able to transform the Kennedy High girls varsity basketball team into a winning program.

The video was made by grad students Trenise Ferreira and Mark Boyer, who interviewed Jackson and some of the players. The coach talked about how, in just a few years, the Eagles went from a team that played in practice jerseys because it lacked uniforms to a well-oiled machine that finished 27-5 last year. The team made the North Coast Section playoffs for the first time in about a decade, Jackson added.

The reasons for the Eagles’ success is quite simple: Teamwork and hard work, according to the coach.

On Monday, Ferreira told the Richmond Standard that she and Boyer created the video for an assignment in their graduate school program.

“I did not go to Kennedy, but I really like Coach Jackson and have been following the team,” she said.

Ferreira has also written articles about the team for the Richmond Confidential.
