The community is invited to help plant as many as 40 trees in Atchison Village Park on Thursday, which is Cesar Chavez Day.
The tree-planting will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Curry Street near the west end of Macdonald Avenue.
Groundwork Richmond, an organization promoting environmental and socio-economic improvements through tree-plantings, youth apprenticeships and STEM education, is leading the effort. It will be joined by city parks and landscaping staff members, volunteers from Leadership High School and residents.
The group’s Green Team, a pre-employment training program for high school age youth, will lead the effort. As part of the tree planting, Groundwork Richmond will track potential greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions for each tree planted.
“All are invited to attend this event to help beautify our public spaces, meet new people, and help clean the air through the power of trees,” according to Groundwork Richmond. “This is a family friendly event, so bring your family and friends, or come alone and enjoy time with your community in the outdoors. Water and light snacks will be provided.”
