Richmond police confiscated two illegal firearms, including a modified fully automatic handgun and an untraceable rifle, during two separate incidents occurring within hours of each other.
The first seizure happened after officers responded to a call regarding an individual brandishing a weapon in the 2300 block of Aberdeen Way. Responding officers located the suspect and secured the scene. Using video surveillance footage, police discovered a backpack belonging to the suspect left nearby. Inside the backpack, officers found a loaded, short-barreled AR-15-style rifle that lacked a serial number, according to the RPD.
A few hours later, an officer initiated a traffic stop in a separate incident. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed a firearm equipped with an extended magazine tucked into the driver’s waistband. The driver was arrested without further incident. The weapon was later identified as a Glock 20 handgun fitted with an illegal conversion switch, which altered the weapon to fire fully automatically, according to police reports.
Both suspects were taken into police custody. Further details weren’t immediately available.
