There are several reasons to be a fan of KD “Big Bites” Sports Ware in Richmond.
For one, you can find the jersey of your favorite team at an affordable price. Also, we can’t think of another retailer that additionally provides delicious barbecue to customers.
Yet another reason to love KD Sports Ware — located at 546 23rd St., between Roosevelt and Barrett avenues — is that customers are greeted by its jovial and lovable owner, Kelvin Davis, a well-known figure in the community.
Davis opened his store about one year ago to give back to his community through good cheer, delicious food and affordable prices on apparel. KD Sports Ware sells sports-related clothing for men, women and children including hoodies, t-shirts, caps, gloves, scarves, backpacks, purses and jackets. NFL, NBA and MLB-related gear abound, the large majority representing Bay Area teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland A’s, Golden State Warriors and Cal Bears. During the NBA playoffs last year, Richmond Standard Editor Mike Aldax picked up a Warriors t-shirt from the store and enjoyed the experience.
The top-selling item is the jerseys, all selling for $100 or less, Davis said.
“I’m trying to give back,” Davis said. “If you come shop around here, we try to take care of you best we can.”
The business also caters events using the massive grill parked next to the shop.
Davis launched the business, in part, to return the favor to a community that helped to raise him.
“You got to put your hand back in the pot you came up out of,” he said. “You got to give back to the community.”
Sports and barbecue are the perfect recipe to “make people smile, happy and enjoy life,” and that’s Davis’ mission at KD Big Bites Sportswear.
