An El Cerrito High graduate from Richmond has made an elite list: The Pac-12 Football All-Conference Defensive Second Team.
Safety Adarius Pickett, a UCLA senior, earned the honor after leading the Bruins in tackles this year with 77 and adding 46 assisted tackles, also a team high, in 12 games. He also had two interceptions.
Pickett was fourth in the Pac-12 in tackles, and sixth in the conference in assisted tackles.
But those accolades appeared not to impress Pickett the most. In fact, the football star was also named to the All Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention Team. To receive that honor, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team’s games, according to the conference.
In fact, Pickett already received his degree in political science, completing it in three years.
In a social media post, Pickett expressed gratitude over receiving the honors, but notice which he mentions first:
“Very blessed to have made All PAC 12 Academic Honorable Mention and All PAC 12 Conference 2nd Team at Safety,” he said. “God’s Plan.”
