Students get up-close look at the Oakland A’s

By Allynn McInerney

Earlier this month, a group of 25 youth  from the Richmond Police Activities League, Richmond Little League and Richmond High Oilers Baseball team joined Chevron for a day with the Oakland A’s.

The group of eager fans started the fun-filled day by watching batting practice from a special spot on the field –right behind home plate.  The group was surprised by players from the A’s and Seattle Mariners, who after taking their swings in the batting cage, signed autographs and posed for photos. A’s slugger Khris Davis gave two of the young fans his batting gloves. Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager and centerfielder Guillermo Heredia took time out to chat with the group.

The group watched the A’s battle back from an 8-1 deficit to lose a nail bitter 8-7. But the post-game fireworks celebrating the 25th anniversary of the movie The Sandlot helped lift everyone’s spirits at the end of the night!
