9-year-old Richmond baseball player chosen for elite national tournament

Seddrick "Seddy" Henderson

A 9-year-old from Richmond is making a name for himself nationally in baseball.

Seddrick “Seddy” Henderson, who has been playing the sport since he was 3 years old, was recently selected and named in the top four in his age division for the Northwest Region. The honor has earned his an opportunity to play in the USSSA All American Baseball games in Melbourne, Fl., from Aug. 4 through Aug. 8.

Henderson, whose favorite positions are pitcher and center field, currently plays for Total Kid Project. A gofundme.com page has been launched to help assist the young player afford the trip to Florida, where he will compete among the nation’s best for his age group at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Melbourne.

“I have been working really hard over the past few years,” Henderson said in the online fundraiser. “I have shown what it takes to compete at a high level against elite players. I even played with the 12u team and we won the championship game!”

Henderson gives thanks to his coaches, T’Won Blake and Kevin Whitaker, “for pushing me to work hard and be the best player I can be.”

All donations to his gofundme.com page will be used towards his trip, including hotel, food and tournament fees.

“I would like you all to be a part of my journey and share these memories with me,” the grateful young player said.
