El Cerrito High track star soaring after state finals
Armauni Archie

El Cerrito High is cheering another track star’s monumental feat.

At the CIF North Coast Section Meet of Champions at Cal’s Edwards Stadium from May 25-26, junior Armauni Archie won the boys 100-meter dash title with the blazing time of 10.885.

That thrilling victory led to a 5th place finish last weekend — in 10.6 — at the CIF State Meet. El Cerrito High School hasn’t had a boy make it to the Calfornia State Meet finals and place in over 30 years.

Archie also placed sixth in the 200 in 22.44 at NCS.

El Cerrito High is getting used to having super-star track athletes under Head Coach Robinson. Coach Robinson is in the midst of rebuilding the Gauchos’ track and field program, and it’s off to a very good start.

Last year, Robinson’s daughter, Kaylah Robinson, finished second in the 100m hurdles at the state meet, breaking all El Cerrito High school records, and is now competing at the University of Oregon.

  1. Another great story! As a former Pac12 runner and USATAF track coach, I like hearing about the local track successes.
I offered to volunteer to work with distance runners at EC last year, because my kids go there (not in track), and never even got a “sorry, no help needed” reply. Maybe I’ll contact the new coach directly instead of the athletic director next year.
The EC runners are doing great, and maybe this is the start of T&F powerhouse.
