These talented Richmond brothers have been chosen to play for Cepeda Baseball, and will represent the U.S. at the 5th Annual Caribbean Baseball Classic in the Dominican Republic from June 10 through June 17.
Meshai and Nikko Taylor, who were born and raised in Richmond, earned their way on the ball field to compete in the premier tournament, which showcases top talent from the U.S., Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and other Latin countries. Cepeda Baseball was started by Ali Cepeda, a former professional baseball player and son of San Francisco Giants Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda.
While the Taylor brothers have earned their spot on the elite rosters — Nikko on the Under-11 team, and Meshai on the Under-13 team — they are reaching out to the community to raise funds for their trip. They have launched a gofundme.com account seeking to raise $2,150. The money will pay for hotel stay, tournament fees, professional coaches, motivational speakers and other aspects for the Caribbean trip. That sum does not, however, pay for airfare.
“Our journey of being a baseball players has taught us so much about ourselves, such as our strengths and weaknesses, and how hard we can push ourselves physically and mentally,” the brothers said.
All donations will directly help fund the fees needed to send the brothers on their well-deserved baseball adventure.
