WCCUSD launching elementary school sports league in Richmond

The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) is set to kick off its first elementary school sports league on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The league features seven elementary schools participating in a free nine-week basketball league followed by a free eight-week soccer league. The schools include Coronado, Grant, King, Wilson, Lincoln, Nystrom, and Stege.

The league is being run in partnership with the City of Richmond and its Recreation Department. All basketball games will be played on Saturdays at Sylvester Greenwood Academy, 831 Chanslor Ave.

“The District is piloting the league in South and Central Richmond schools to assist in its efforts to increase academics, attendance, and health outcomes for students,” a WCCUSD statement said.
