Jabari Bird, 22, an alum of Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond and UC Berkeley, was selected 56th overall by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Draft last week.
The shooting guard known for his success beyond the 3-point line was plagued by injuries at Cal, missing 22 complete games in his college career. Still, he ranks 25th on the school’s all-time career points list (1,227).
Bird is 6-6, 190 pounds and averaged 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1 assist per game in the 2016-17 season. He is known for his quick-release and ability to shoot off the dribble.
At Salesian, Bird became a McDonald’s All-American while leading the Pride to a 100-8 record over his three seasons, including a No. 1 ranking in the state during his senior season. As a senior, he averaged 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during league play.
