Salesian boys basketball team’s ‘bona fide aspirations’ for state title

Forget the trip to San Francisco -- watch a musical right here in Richmond. co-founder and publisher Mark Tennis has penned a lengthy piece highlighting the Salesian College Preparatory boys basketball team, which has high expectations following a slim overtime loss to No. 1 De La Salle in the CIF Open Division playoffs last season.

“Long a North Coast Section power — Salesian has six section titles in the past 11 years — the Pride is now entrenched as a Northern California force with bona fide aspirations to play for a state title,” Tennis wrote.

Last season’s team, considered young with two seniors and one junior, amassed a 21-game win streak heading into that playoff loss. A majority of the players from that team are back this season.

We encourage our readers to check out the full article, which delves into Salesian’s successful past, its coaching staff that includes award-winning Head Coach Bill Mellis, and its consistently strong players.
