Basketball: Richmond girls win on the road

Moesha Samuel went on another scoring tear Monday night, raining down 24 points in the Richmond Oilers’ 48-36 win over Livermore Valley Prep in a non-conference girls varsity bout.

The Oilers (5-14, 1-5 league) led by just a point at the half but outscored the Hawks 15-4 in the third quarter, paving the path for their fifth road victory – and their second win over the Hawks – this season.

Samuel, who is averaging just over 16 points a game this year, was hot again Monday night, but the senior got help. Sophomore Imani Irwin added 13 points and senior Essence Johnson had five. Junior Nisrine Zakaria, senior Precious Roberts and freshman Claudia Flores each chipped in two points for the Oilers.

Richmond hopes to continue its success on the road with a conference game Wednesday night at John Swett (3-11, 1-5 league) in Crockett.

The last time the Oilers played Swett, on Jan. 10, they lost 45-46 despite another 24-point outpouring from Samuel.
