Metro by T-Mobile, a family-owned business located at 12800 San Pablo Ave. in Richmond (corner of Esmond Avenue), will host its 17th annual backpack and school supplies giveaway on Friday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event offers 200 backpacks filled with school supplies to local families at no cost, with no purchase necessary to participate.

Owner Ian Taha, who has operated the store since 2007, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community that has supported the business over the years. “Without the support of the community being our customers, we would not have been in business,” Taha said. “Giving back to our customers and the community is very important to us here at Metro by T-Mobile.”

The annual giveaway aims to alleviate the financial burden many families face during the back-to-school season.

“We know many parents and their families with children are struggling with financial issues,” Taha noted. “Backpacks and school supplies are expensive, very pricey. Our goal is to have the children come here and get a free backpack with school supplies in them, watch them become happy and get a big smile on their faces!”

In previous years, the store has consistently distributed hundreds of backpacks filled with supplies to local families. The store also annually holds giveaways that include children’s toys during the holidays.

Families are encouraged to arrive early, as supplies are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The store is located at 12800 San Pablo Ave., Richmond, at the corner of Esmond Avenue.
