Lowrider cars, motorcycles, and trucks will rumble through the streets of Richmond and San Pablo on Sunday, Aug. 17, to celebrate individual journeys toward sobriety, as well as community solidarity.
The United Urban Warrior Society – Richmond Chapter, in collaboration with Leftside Printing, is hosting the “Lowriders for Peace, Unity, and Sobriety” event, with participants gathering at 1 p.m. in the Target parking lot in Richmond.
At 1:30 p.m. sharp, a convoy of customized vehicles will cruise through the neighborhoods of Richmond and San Pablo, symbolizing a collective commitment to peace and recovery. After an hour-long procession, the convoy will return to Leftside Printing at 1420 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond for a community gathering.
The post-cruise celebration will feature inspirational speakers from local Alcoholics Anonymous chapters, sharing personal stories of overcoming alcoholism. These individuals will be honored with Certificates of Achievement, recognizing their dedication to sobriety and their roles as positive influences within the lowrider community.
Organizers emphasize the event’s significance in addressing the challenges of alcohol abuse that have historically impacted the Richmond and San Pablo communities. By showcasing stories of recovery and resilience, the event aims to inspire others and promote a message of hope and healing.
“It will be powerful, magical and inspirational to see how these amazing individuals have made themselves role-models to our lowrider community,” organizers said. “It’s like to say if I can do you do it.”
