Pass2Class offers local students free bus rides for up to two months

Pass2Class applications are now open, offering free bus passes to K-12 students throughout Contra Costa County to encourage transit use.

Up to two students per household may receive up to two months of free rides on participating transit agencies, including WestCAT and AC Transit.

To qualify, students must be 19 years old or younger and enrolled in either public or private schools within Contra Costa County. A parent or guardian must submit the application, commit to using the bus for school travel instead of driving, agree to receive 511 Contra Costa’s monthly newsletter, and complete a follow-up survey.

Eligible households can choose from one of the following combinations of transit passes per student: two 31‑day AC Transit passes, two 31‑day WestCAT passes, two 20‑ride Tri Delta Transit passes, or a County Connection pass valid through Sept. 30, 2025. Although applications close Sept. 30, or once supplies are depleted, families are encouraged to apply early, as County Connection, Tri Delta, and WestCAT are already offering fare‑free youth rides through July 31, with Pass2Class passes mailing out starting the week of July 21, so students can ride free from Aug. 1 onward.

Passes will be mailed directly to the student’s home, usually within a week of a complete application, and will not be replaced if lost or stolen. 511 Contra Costa maintains the right to verify enrollment and update program rules at any time

Parents or guardians should select the student’s school city on the Pass2Class webpage and fill out the application promptly to qualify. Applying early maximizes the chance of receiving a pass in time for the first day of school. For more information, visit the official Pass2Class page on 511ContraCosta.org or contact 511 Contra Costa directly . This initiative represents a significant step in building a more sustainable and accessible transit future for Contra Costa students.
