Young speakers take the stage: Spring tournament open to Bay Area students

It’s said that practice makes perfect, and to that end, The Practice Space will host the “Spring 2025 Young Speakers Tournament” Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Korematsu Middle School in El Cerrito.

“No prior experience is needed and students get to practice speech and debate and participate in fun activities,” posted Senior Director of Programs Maribel Lopez on Facebook.

The tournament is open to speakers throughout the Bay Area in 3rd through 8th grade. Students will pick a category and participate in their appropriate grade group.

Register here for the Young Speakers Tournament. Korematsu Middle School is located at 7125 Donal Ave. in El Cerrito.

The Richmond organization is also appealing to 8th graders attending El Cerrito High School in the new academic year to consider joining the school’s Speech & Debate Club (a.k.a. Forensics). Doing so will give students the opportunity to work with an award-winning team of coaches and alums, harness the power of speaking and argumentation and compete in related tournaments, according to the organization.
