A pedestrian was significantly injured in an alleged hit-and-run accident on Valley View Road in Richmond early Thursday, and police arrested a suspect later in the day with help from license plate reader technology.
Richmond police responded to Valley View Road at Morningside Drive around 4:35 a.m. and located a pedestrian with injuries from being struck by a vehicle, which left the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
The pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center. Though the injuries were severe, the pedestrian is expected to survive, police said.
Richmond police investigators located video footage of a possible suspect vehicle but could not read the license plate. However, a nearby Flock Safety license plate reader provided the information needed to identify the suspect vehicle. That information led to an arrest later in the evening.
The driver, who wasn’t immediately identified, admitted to being involved in a collision, according to police.
