No injuries were reported when a fire broke out at a vacant commercial structure at the corner of Espee and Chanslor avenues in Richmond early Sunday.

The fire occurred on the property that was formerly occupied by Burnt Ramen, the once -long-running, underground punk venue that was shut down after failing inspections in 2016.

Richmond fie crews responded just after 2:30 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming from a two-story structure, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, which reported the incident on social media.

While crews put hose lines in place, another crew went to the roof to perform vertical ventilation. The size of the structure and numerous interior modifications in the building’s layout prompted fire crews to request a second alarm.

“Richmond firefighters had the flames under control within approximately 30 minutes, but remained at scene until just before sunrise performing overhaul and ensuring all hotspots were extinguished,” states Local 188.

No injuries were reported. Information about the cause of the fire and the extent of damages were not immediately available.
