The Richmond Police Department recently released a public safety announcement in the wake of an increase in robberies in city.

Since Dec. 1, about 30 robberies have been reported in the city, the RPD reported on social media.

As a result, the RPD is advising the public to take safety precautions when out and about, such as staying aware of their surroundings, especially when entering or exiting a vehicle.

RPD is also advising the public to stay off their phones and avoid distractions when in public places, and to trust their instincts: ” If something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut and move to a safer location,” police said.

Also keep valuable out of sight and travel in groups.

“Your vigilance can help us prevent these crimes,” the RPD states. “If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it to the Richmond Police Department.”
