Over the last month and a half, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has put seven new fire engines into service across the district, including in the City of Pinole and in El Sobrante.

That means quite a few ceremonies during which fire officials and community members pushed the new engines into firehouses. It is part of a tradition dating back to when fire engines were horse drawn carriages, City of Pinole officials pointed out.

Contra Costa Fire and the City of Pinole shared photos online of the ceremonies.

Along with Pinole and El Sobrante, new fire engines were also welcomed to firehouses in the cities of Pleasant Hill, Oakley, Walnut Creek and Antioch.

“These new fire engines will increase the district’s reliability for emergency responses, reduce maintenance costs for older apparatus, and will increase firefighter safety,” officials said.

In the City of Pinole, Fire Station 73 not only received a new engine, but also fresh new signage.
