A 14-year-old girl was killed and her 11-year-old sister was critically injured after the stolen vehicle they were traveling in crashed into two trees and a pole in Richmond, police said.
The crash was reported at 5:17 a.m. in the 600 block of Canal Boulevard, where a heavily damaged Infinity G35 was located in the northbound lanes of Canal Boulevard, according to police.
Officers located the 14-year-old girl ejected from the Infinity G35 and with fatal injuries. The 11-year-old was found suffering from significant injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, where she remains in critical condition, police said.
An investigation indicated the Infinity had been reported stolen to San Pablo police two days earlier, and that it was traveling northbound on Canal Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and struck two trees and a pole on the east curb line.
Officers also discovered two 15-year-old boys were also in the car at the time of the crash, and that they fled immediately after the collision.
“One was located at an area hospital after he sought treatment for injuries,” police said. “The other was located at a residence in Richmond later that evening.”
The teens provided conflicting statements about who was driving, so the ongoing investigation will include DNA evidence to determine the driver, police said.
