An inmate died while in custody at the West County Detention Facility Monday afternoon, according to the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.
At 1:56 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to reports of an unresponsive inmate and called for medical staff and paramedics. The male inmate, who wasn’t immediately identified, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. His death “does not appear to be suspicious,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The incident is being investigated by both the Sheriff’s Office and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, per protocol.
