A 44-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in a Richmond home early Thursday.

Police responded to calls of shots fired at 1:18 a.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Lincoln Avenue. A male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound was found inside the home, police said. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim died at the scene.

Paul Ballenger, 44, was identified as the shooting suspect. Ballenger and the victim both resided in the home. Ballenger allegedly fired at least one round at the victim following an argument that escalated.

He was taken into custody at the scene without incident, then booked into the Richmond City Jail on one count of murder.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released, pending notification of his family.
