Multiple families were displaced in an apartment complex fire in San Pablo late Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
Just after 4:30 p.m., Richmond firefighters responded to 5009 Montoya Avenue to assist Contra Costa County Fire (Con Fire) with a fire coming from a third floor apartment, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union representing city firefighters.
After the first arriving crew aimed their hose at the flames, other crews went to the roof to perform vertical ventilation.
“One full unit sustained significant fire and smoke damage, while multiple others sustained significant smoke damage displacing approximately 20 residents,” fire officials said.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. A preliminary investigation indicates a pot left cooking on the stove may have caused the fire, according to a Con Fire report.
Red Cross was called to assist in providing temporary housing for displaced residents.
