Be A Mentor, Inc. is recruiting mentors to work with at-risk youth in the Richmond area.

Be A Mentor provides a number of services supporting at-risk youth, including virtual academic mentoring. The nonprofit also collaborates with Richmond Police Activities League to expand supporting mentoring to youth ages 10-17 who are under-resourced and impacted by violence.

Its mentoring program aim to prevent youth from becoming involved in the juvenile justice system, or re-entering the system.

Mentors spend a minimum of 1-2 hours a week with their mentee for a full year. In-person activities can include visiting the library, a park, sporting event, shopping, job shadowing, helping with school work or just talking about what’s going on.

Mentors are provided a project manager available to answer questions, a goal-setting tool and training on how to use it, and a support group with opportunities to meet other mentors in meetings, workshops and other social events.
