The Richmond Moves electric, on-demand shuttle service will officially hit the road when it launches at the City of Richmond Drive Electric Earth Day event Wed., April 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 450 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond.

According to the City, the citywide service will operate like a shared shuttle “that comes where you want, when you want,” Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for $2 per ride (students/seniors ride free). Trips can be booked via phone and a shuttle will arrive “in minutes” to take riders where they want to go. Three shuttles will be available as part of the service, which will operate in collaboration with Via.

At the City of Richmond Drive Electric Earth Day event, community members can come out and not only celebrate the launch of the Richmond Moves shuttle, but also learn about electric vehicle and electric bike ownership, financial incentives and charging equipment, per City officials. People can also cease the opportunity to “receive assistance registering for and learning more about all the Richmond Transportation multimodal e-mobility programs and services.”

The shuttle service was officially named “Richmond Moves” after the Richmond Transportation Division posted a survey last year welcoming community input. “Various name suggestions were received for consideration before reaching the final selection of Richmond MOVES,” stated the City in the City Manager’s report.

Richmond Moves is part of California Climate Investments (CCI), “a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy and improving public health and the environment—particularly in disadvantaged communities,” stated City officials in the report.
