
El Cerrito police have identified the man found dead in an apparent homicide at a city library as 47-year-old Daniel Leo Vigil III.
Officers were called to the scene at 6510 Stockton Ave. at about 2:22 p.m. on Monday and found Vigil deceased on the exterior front entrance of the library, police said.
Vigil, believed to have experienced homelesses in the time leading up to his death, appeared to have suffered a traumatic injury, and the police are investigating the case as a homicide.
“The El Cerrito Police Department is seeking the assistance from the community in the pursuit of justice for Mr. Vigil,” police said.
Anyone with information regarding his death or those who may have seen him around the last few days in the area of the library are asked to contact the El Cerrito Police Department Investigations Unit.
“This may include the area around Centennial Park where he may have frequented,” police said. “He was known to push a baby stroller and wear a Raider’s baseball cap.”
