At a time of great need, Soulful Softball Sunday is holding its 6th Annual backpack and school supplies giveaway at Nicholl Park this Saturday.

In an event sponsored by Cooperative Federal Credit Union in Berkeley, Soulful Softball Sunday members will pass out backpacks on a first come, first served basis beginning at 9 a.m.

While Soulful Softball Sunday is a community organization that prides itself on bringing people together, it aims to do so safely this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The giveaway will be conducted via curbside pickup at the entrance of Nicholl Park on MacDonald Avenue, according to Soulful Softball Sunday founder Rodney Alamo Brown. All attendees are required to wear proper face coverings.

Soulful Softball Sunday holds charitable events throughout the year, including its annual summer softball extravaganza that gathers residents for soul food, resources and more. The event was canceled this year because of the pandemic.

“Soulful Softball Sunday is honored to still be continuing its labor of LOVE to our beloved community of Richmond,” Brown said. “We’re extremely blessed to join forces with Cooperative Federal Credit Union.”

Brown added, “It makes me feel great to see humanity being served in such a crisis as we’re in.”
