The Rosie's Girls summer camp enjoyed a Career Day during which over 30 women in the trades networked, held interactive exhibits, and developed bonds with campers on Tuesday, July 9, 2019..

Calling all future Rosie the Riveters! Registration has opened for the annual Rosie’s Girls Summer Camp in Richmond, offered to local girls entering the 7th, 8th or 9th grades.

The six-week summer day camp from June 22 through July 31 combines hands-on instruction in skilled trades and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), along with lots of fun, empowering activities and games.

Like the WWII-era Rosie the Riveters, a fictional character representing real women who worked in the shipyards and factories while men fought overseas, students in the camp learn skills and career pathways that are considered nontraditional for women, such as welding and carpentry.

Rosie’s Girls has funding to provide scholarships for students from low-income families. The camp runs Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes field trips, such as an overnight trip to Yosemite from July 21-Juy 24, along with mentoring sessions with professional women. Info sessions will occur April 15 and April 16.
