De Anza High senior Yvette Findley’s reason was pretty simple.
“No child should go without a gift to open on Christmas morning,” she told her parents.
And so Yvette went ahead and put together a program typically set aside for seasoned nonprofit leaders: She launched a full-on toy drive sponsored by local businesses.
This Saturday, Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Yvette is holding the toy drive at De Anza High. Community members who bring a new, unopened toy will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a two-tiered cake feeding 40 people from sponsor Pacific Bakery, or a hoodie from fellow sponsor Brand New Legend.
Naturally, Yvette’s parents are very proud of her.
“She’s always had a big heart and wants to help children,” said Elisa Findley, her mother. “She has two younger sisters and wants to be a great example for them and show them it’s OK to help people in need. She has been a child who asks for little and understands the need to help the less fortunate.”
