Juveniles ages 15 and 17 were arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in North Richmond on Friday, Nov. 30, that claimed the life of 60-year-old Castro Valley resident Raymond Vasquez, according to the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.
About 6:25 p.m. that day, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 4th Street and Silver Avenue on a report that a person had been shot. They found Vasquez in his vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound, near a home in the 300 block of Silver Avenue. Vasquez was pronounced deceased at the scene, sheriff’s officials said. The suspects fled before sheriff’s officials arrived, but were arrested Monday afternoon in Richmond.
Detectives believe Vasquez came to North Richmond for a drug transaction and that the shooting followed an altercation with the suspects.
The suspects, who are not being identified, were booked into Juvenile Hall on charges that include murder, robbery, conspiracy and participating in a gang, the sheriff’s office said.
