A 1-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle in Richmond Sunday morning, and the driver who fled the scene after the collision was arrested a few miles away, police said.
The incident occurred about 11:50 a.m., when Richmond officers were called to Cutting Boulevard and S. 17th Street about a traffic collision, Richmond police Lt. Matt Stonebraker said.
“Officers arrived and discovered that a 1 year old child was struck by a car traveling eastbound on Cutting Blvd.,” Stonebraker said. “The child was immediately taken to a local hospital but tragically, the child succumbed to his injuries and died.”
The female driver of the car, who has not been identified, fled but was subsequently arrested by RPD officers, Stonebraker said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
