Richmond police arrested a man involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision near Richmond Parkway and West Macdonald Avenue that killed a 45-year-old Richmond woman last Saturday, Nov. 17, police said.

Police responded to the scene at 10:25 p.m. on the Parkway south of West Macdonald on a report of a hit and run traffic collision.

“A car with three occupants was stopped for the railroad crossing arms on Richmond Parkway when the lone suspect rear ended that car at a high rate of speed,” police said. “The suspect fled from the scene and he was ultimately taken into custody by officers.”

Two of the three occupants sustained moderate injuries but the third occupant, identified by the County Coroner as 45-year-old Rajni Gulati of Richmond, suffered critical injuries. Despite hours of life saving measures by surgeons, Gulati died at the scene.

The suspect, 42-year-old Marcus Wolfe of Hayward, was arrested and charged with murder, felony DUI and felony hit and run, police said.

The crash was the first of two DUI related fatalities on Richmond Parkway last weekend. On Sunday, Nov. 18, a 28-year-old man who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol died after his car left the road and struck a tree at Goodrick Avenue, police said. The driver, identified by authorities as Rafael Delara, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

On November 18, 2018 at 1:25 AM, RPD officers responded to Richmond Parkway, west of Goodrick Ave. on a solo vehicle collision into a tree. Officers arrived and discovered a black 4-door car that collided into a tree in the center median on Richmond Parkway. The driver was the vehicle’s sole occupant.
