One of the largest remaining gaps in the San Francisco Bay Trail — a 1-mile stretch west of Golden Gate Fields — is set for construction starting this month.

The East Bay Regional Park District announced Monday construction on the new trail between Buchanan and Gilman streets is expected to be completed in December 2019. During construction time, Golden Gate Fields will remain open.

“The trail segment will be constructed across a 4.88 acre easement donated by Golden Gate Fields to the East Bay Regional Park District in 2016,” the park district said in a statement, adding that it will “provide spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Mt. Tamalpais.”

In addition to the trail segment, EBRPD is leading a habitat restoration project at Albany Beach, which is expected to be closed for five months during construction.
