More enhancements are planned for Harbour-8 Park on the Richmond Greenway.
A proposal up for review at Richmond City Council on Tuesday would add two entry gateways into the park at Harbour Way and 8th Street; a senior area/quiet zone that includes planting and irrigation, a bio swale, site furnishings and community art; and paving for the patio next to the new “Mini Play Field” set for construction this year, according to a city staff report.
The additions have been proposed by members of Pogo Park’s Community Resident Team in collaboration with seniors who live in the Harbour View Senior Housing Complex, located next to the park.
“The improvements to Harbour-8 Park are also in line with – and will not conflict with the proposed development of 909 Ohio Avenue and 909 Ohio’s proposed integration with Harbour-8 Park,” the staff report stated.
At Tuesday’s meeting, staff recommends that City Council award a project management and construction contract to Pogo Park for $490,000, and award a $31,500 contract to mack5 for project advisory services.
The Harbour-8 Park is located on a two-block section of the Greenway between
Harbour Way and 8th Street the Iron Triangle neighborhood. Pogo Park, which is staffed solely by residents of the Iron Triangle, collaborated for a decade with the city to reclaim and revitalize local parks, including the Elm Playlot as well as Harbour-8.
